John D. Rockefeller was one of the most important man in the oil industry who has ever lived. He started out young in the buesiness world, at the early age of 13. he did all sorts of little jobs to help his family survive like being a telographor for example. from then on he just expaned in the business world. he was a very smart man and noticed how people were reacting to oil and how much people needed in now that there was a use for it. people called oil black oil, which represents how valuable it was to people. Rockefeller started out with small companies across the country and soon he owned 95% of the oil companies in America. He strongly believed in survival of the fittest and that if you were the best and the strongest, you would be fine in the buesness industry. he was also a man who believed that if you couldnt sacrafise anything, you would get no where and fall apart.

This represents the overall power that came with the emergence of the Standard Oil Company. Seen as both a captain of industry and a robber baron, Rockerfeller used this "black gold" to create an enormous profit that ultimately went straight to his pocket because of the monopoly he controlled, illustrated by the tentacles controlling both societry and political life. A huge factor that also contributed to the power of standard oil was the protection he gained from forming trusts , even to the extent where his power influenced politics.
